Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for May 22

Blash Splash 11! ... yes, 11! ... Carraway won't go away ... etc.

What can you say, but ...

High-A -- High Desert 11, San Jose 6 -- Box

Has, in fact, Jabari Blash (Watch List) done the "Jose Bautista" Great Leap Forward, the corner-turning, plateau-jumping, paradigm-shifting transformation into our very own mini-Giancarlo Stanton without trading nine top prospects?

Or is he just a really good fit for High Desert?

More on that later.

But, for now, enjoy the ride.

Blash Splash! No. 11.  Plus two walks and no strikeouts.  Now slugging .717!

And ... our new icon Chris Taylor (Talk40 #28) had his fourth home run and 13th double.  Taylor is now slugging .536.

And ... we can't forget our man Ji-Man Choi (Talk40 #19), who had three singles and is now hitting .363.

Choi's countryman Seon-Gi Kim (26intheMix) got the save by finishing the game with three scoreless frames.

AAA -- Tacoma 5, Nashville 4  -- Box

I admittedly lost a bit of faith in Andrew Carraway (Watch List) last year when, after a long road to AAA, he seemed to hit a wall at that level.  At 25, that was his shot at the brass ring, and he didn't grab it.  Now he's 26, and while the same rules don't really apply to pitchers, it gets harder to envision a spot on the 40-man roster for him, and harder to evaluate results when a player gets to be older than the competition.

That being said, the guys ahead of him in line keep getting injured or imploding, so he still has a glimmer of hope, and his 2013 results are a big improvement.

Wednesday night: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K.On the year: 2.98 ERA | 1.24 WHIP | 8.5 H/9 | 2.7 BB/9 | 6.9 K/9

So he's keeping his name in the conversation.

Already well into the conversation are Nick Franklin (Talk40 #7) (two singles), Carlos Triunfel (26intheMix) (14th double), and C Jesus Sucre (Watch List) (double, two singles; now .302/.373/.321 in 59 PAs), all of whom have been endorsed for promotion by various weighty voices by now.

Low-A -- Burlington 5, Clinton 3 -- Box

Matt Anderson didn't follow up on last week's impressive start (5.0 IP, 4 ER), but the LumberKings got nice relief work from Oliver Garcia (Watch List) (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K) and Matt Vedo (Watch List) (2.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 K).

Taylor Ard (Talk40 #32) tried to spark a comeback with a two-run blast in the bottom of the 9th (his second of the year), but it was not enough.  Ard also had a single and a walk, but 'Ardball has been mostly a disappointment so far.

Looking Ahead

Jeremy Bonderman gets another chance to demonstrate his worth at Tacoma.  And two of my 2012 favorites will try to shake off their 2013 doldrums: Anthony Fernandez (Talk40 #23) for Jackson and Trevor Miller (26intheMix) for High Desert.
